HOCKEY MANITOBA STATEMENT ON RETURN TO PLAY

On June 4, 2020, Hockey Manitoba circulated Hockey Canada's statement on a Return to Hockey in Canada which indicated that there are currently no Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities being conducted and that Hockey Canada is working with its 13 branches across the country on their return-to-hockey plans.  This will allow each branch the opportunity to work with authorities in their respective regions to determine when it is safe to return to the ice in areas that fall under their jurisdiction.

Hockey Manitoba would like to clarify for its members that all hockey camps, skills sessions, recreational leagues or friendly pick-up games that are currently operating in the province are not sanctioned by Hockey Manitoba.  The reopening of arenas in Manitoba begun as of June 1, 2020 as facilities were able to open along with Phase 2 (https://manitoba.ca/asset_library/en/proactive/2020_2021/restoring-safe-services-phase-2.pdf) of the Manitoba Restoring Safe Services plan.

All hockey camps, skills sessions, recreational leagues or friendly pick-up games that are currently operating out of arenas in Manitoba must adhere to the health and safety protocols that have been established by those specific facilities as well as adhering to all current health and safety standards in Manitoba.

Hockey Manitoba is currently working with Hockey Canada, Sport Manitoba and Provincial Sport Organizations in Manitoba to develop a Return to Hockey Plan which we are planning to submit to the province in the coming weeks.  The plan will include comprehensive safety guidelines and requirements, along with a phased-in approach for returning to play.

Once Hockey Manitoba's Return to Hockey plan is approved by the province, our members may resume on-ice, sanctioned activities – subject to compliance with current health and safety standards in Manitoba.

Members can utilize the province’s Risk Assessment and Mitigation Tool (https://www.gov.mb.ca/asset_library/en/coronavirus/activities-guidelines.pdf) along with Hockey Canada guidance.
